Coronation Tea at The Alice

It’s going to be a busy weekend, so make sure you celebrate the Coronation in style. Here’s our guide to the best places to check out!

The Plough at Hanney – Get down there on Saturday by 11am for the Kings’ Coronation and enjoy a delicious Classic British BBQ Menu while watching the Coronation live. The party starts at 11am and goes on until late.

The Randolph – The Alice commemorates King Charles III’s Coronation from 11.30am with Champagne and canapes, followed by a Champagne afternoon tea (see main pic) including Coronation chicken with watercress, free-range egg with saffron mayo & rocket, smoked salmon with horseradish & black pepper sandwiches, and a King Charles wild mushroom tart. Then plain and fruit scones and an array of cakes. £69 per person accompanied by a live pianist.

The White Hart Fyfield – The bunting is going up, the pizza oven is being fired, cocktails being prepared and food fit for a king is on the menu. Open all weekend expect Royal Rhubarb Fizz, Charlie’s High Tea cocktails, Sovereign spring vegetable quiche and the official Coronation strawberry and ginger trifle.

The Greyhound, Letcombe Regis – is running a regal menu for the weekend, with head chef Martin Sherriff’s twist – think the King’s quiche of spinach, broad beans and tarragon mousse with Jersey royal potatoes and a green bean risotto. Throw in some extra long dining hours, cream teas with Gusbourne sparkling wine (as used for the Royal Collection) and you’re in for a royal knees up!

A Right Royal Knees Up as Cherwell Collective’s Big Lunch at Exeter Hall gets underway in Kidlington on Sunday includes a community picnic, local vendors stalls, live music, and a pay-what-you-can ethos running from 11am-2pm. Then on Monday the fun continues with the unveiling of #livingsculpturekidlington, a litter pick, food and live music at Park Hill recreation Ground in Kidlington.

Millets Farm, Frilford – is holding a scavenger hunt from Saturday to Monday which is free to enter. Find all 12 of the royal themed hidden pictures which have a letter on them, unscramble them, spell out a secret answer and claim a chocolate coin prize.

Daylesford, Cotswolds is going all out this weekend – on Saturday with a brass band, music and cocktails. Dogs are invited too, as the Bamford Barn will be doing royal pet portraits. On Sunday, enjoy The Coronation Big Lunch, an open-air feast of picnic and party food, a coronation puppy fashion show, pop-up bars, live music, face painting, flower crowns, topiary demonstrations and treatments.

Five Little Pigs, Wallingford – On Saturday enjoy a special afternoon tea, between 3pm and 5pm with a glass of Hundred Hills Wine, Missing Bean coffee or a special tea pairing. Think plenty of seasonal cakes, bakes and sandwiches, and all your favourite Pigs’ touches, such as Earl Grey tea loaf with Nettlebed butter, rhubarb pavlova or doused cucumber and local poached trout sandwiches. £35 a head.

Magdalen Arms flea market – Saturday – Join the coffee drinking and breakfast bun eating and enjoy the market full to the brim with antiques, pre-loved good quality clothes and furniture, bric-a-brac and home grown flowers from 9.30am till 3pm

Red Lion Eynsham – Watch the screening of the Coronation on Saturday while eating a top notch breakfast from 10 – 12pm. From a full English to veggie options, breakfast baps, avocado on toast and smoked salmon.

Old Crown Coaching Inn, Faringdon – On Friday, DJ James Turner will be spinning the decks in the Courtyard, and on Saturday there is a street party in Market Square with the Crown’s Stag Shed serving drinks and their bar menu.

Quod, Gees and The Old Parsonage have prepared a three-course King’s Coronation meal from May 6-8. Gees even have a Coronation tapas board to share. And with the outdoor terrace now open at Quod, you can dine al fresco at the same time. A high tea is also on offer.
