The new Pompette shop sells wine

Oxfordshire’s cafes, pubs and restaurants are opening in-house shops in their droves to help tide them over during lockdown, while keeping their customers happy and the locals well stocked.

Here are our favourite in-house shops encouraging you to shop local in November:

The Bell, Langford – The Bell Inn Farmshop – Everything from plonk to pots, veg to a cheesy wedge, pies to ribeyes….. You get the gist. Open 7 days a week 10am-9pm with new goods arriving everyday.

Pompette – Summertown – deli, cheese, meats, salads, sweets, biscuits, dry store, pasta to beans, back pudding, wine and Pompette ready meals. Large variety of charcuterie and cheese everyone has going mad about manager Ben tells me. Plus it provides the perfect place to pick up your Pompette at Home orders. Cherwell Boathouse, North Oxford – has launched The Boathouse Grocers online for collection or delivery boasting ‘restaurant quality produce’. A really comprehensive gourmet shop full of delicious cheese, meats, bread from The Natural Bread Company, flour, wine and so much more. For Collection or Delivery on Tuesday or Friday 3-5pm. Order by Sunday or Wednesday 8pm.

Orwells, Binfield Heath – The Orwells Community Shop is up and running. Enjoy butchery and fishmongers to ice cream, ready meals, a deli and roasts. The one stop shop is open 24/7, but closed on Mondays & Tuesdays for collection or delivery.

Harcourt Arms, Stanton Harcourt – The Stores have now become not just a deli, but an integral part of the local community. Providing most essentials from butter to broccoli, Rosé to rib of beef, fresh fruit, veg, meats, beers and wines, or pop in for takeaway coffee, pastries and sandwiches. Open daily from 8am-5pm.

Magdalen Arms, Magdalen Road, East Oxford – is running a small shop should you wish to purchasewine, larder jars, italian dry goods, Tonys homemade chutneys and jams. Try and bring your own bags to carry home.

Upton Smokery, Upton is running an online shop of smoked meats, smoked fish, cheese, wine, and seasonings at

The Worton Organic, Cassington shop is open but has also gone online, while its restaurant remains closed, from 10am to 4pm each day. Click & Collect and deliveries run from Wednesday to Sunday. Buy their wonderful, homegrown and organic fruits, vegetables, pickles, preserves, breads and cakes and fish.

Colombia Coffee Roasters, Summertown has been much in the news recently for converting their cafe into a ‘pop up farm shop’ offering a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables and other everyday essentials such as milk, eggs, and bread. Opening times: Monday to Saturday: 8am to 5pm. Sunday: 9am to 5pm.

Oxfordshire Yeoman, Freeland – The Yeo-Shop is infamous in West Oxfordshire and offers a plentiful supply of vegetables, fruit, dairy, dry good, toiletries and more. Open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-1pm.

Branca, Jericho – Although the restaurant is closed, the adjoining deli is open from 8am-8pm with daily offerings and a huge range of produce: Branca At Home meals, takeaways menus, coffee and cake.

Flo’s, East Oxford – while the cafe is closed except as a takeaway, the Refill Shop is open for business. Purchase a wide range of dry foods on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 11am-5pm. Selling pasta, pulses, grains, oils, vinegars, spices, dried fruit and nuts, toiletries, cleaning detergent, cereals, baking ingredients and more:
