If you want to see the stars of tomorrow in action, then head down to The North Wall tomorrow (Saturday July 20) for Alchymy – an annual new work festival which shines a light on the talents of fresh theatre-makers and bold new work.
And here are the three plays you can’t miss, alongside numerous workshops, entertainment, connections, conversations, inspiring performances, panel discussions and workshops.
- 1) SUPERREAL by Goya is a musical rollercoaster, featuring a spectacular new spin on the Lewis Carroll classic, as Alex, who is running away from everything including the rent, decisions and Milton Keynes, gets lost in a never-ending nightclub and must discover a way out. Treading the dangerous boundary between fantasy and reality, Superreal asks big questions about gender identity, freedom and turning the world upside down. Make sure you catch this work-in-progress sharing of a musical fantasia on queer themes. 2.45pm – 3.45pm
2) Multi award winning story-teller Roann Hassani McCloskey returns with her hilarious and inquisitive approach to comedy. Following sell-out shows at Vault Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, Soho Theatre and touring the UK, Roann is over-sharing once again in Who Murdered My Cat? Which makes her want to delve into her past and question her memories. 6.30pm – 7.30pm
3) International House of Vape: Redefining Theatre Experience – Hot off the heels of their successful Edinburgh run, T. Brennan and J. Newton of The Wardrobe Ensemble proudly present a visionary new performance collab. Combining biting satire, arresting imagery and excessive vaping, IHoV takes a sledgehammer to the theatre industry, examining the human cost of making art in a profit-driven world. 8pm – 9pm.
The festival also features fantastic work made by ArtsLab alumni and North Wall Creative Associates, so book now for Alchymy and snatch this superb opportunity to see work by the next generation of writers and performers as well as accessing support and information about the industry as a whole.
A Festival Pass costs £20, with individual events (performances and workshops/panels) costing £5, and International House of Vape: Redefining Theatre Experience £10.
