Chalgrove Artisan Distillery, the home of OX GINS, won an incredible four silver awards at the prestigious London Spirits Competition 2022.
Their OX20 Navy strength Gin was the highest awarded gin in this year’s competition and a real crowd pleaser and we have got one bottle to giveaway!
Did you know that all of the OX Gins range are distilled making use of the natural mineral water from the Blenheim Palace Estate? Quite apt then that this gin takes the name from the postcode area of Woodstock and Bladon, where Blenheim is located.
OX GINS Ben Clark commented “We were looking to create a Navy strength gin for some time and the fact that there was an HMS Blenheim just seemed a perfect fit, as did the blue branding for the OX20 on the bottle itself”.
However, what OX GINS co-founder and gin creator extraordinaire Jenny Clark thought was going to be an easy job, was a challenge as she had to up the alcohol by volume to 57.1% ABV which took time to tweak to ensure it is still wonderfully smooth.
The other winning entries were:
OX3 Gin – created with spring and summer in mind, using locally sourced apples from Waterperry Gardens. It is then combined with figs and cloves to create a smooth and versatile gin. Pairs extremely well with a premium light tonic water.
OX11 Gin – created in partnership with the NHS in Didcot (Hence the postcode!) this gin was perfected to celebrate the Covid vaccine volunteers. Jenny said “Chamomile is purported to have soothing qualities, so I thought that this would be a perfect fit”. This gin is paired with rose to provide a floral scent and a balanced tasting gin.
OX14 Gin – This premium Gin effortlessly makes use of saffron and Grains of Paradise, paired to create a fiery gin.
Jenny Clark, has been busy concocting these four new gins, as always, named after Oxfordshire postcodes. She said “Having created these new really good gins, it was time to put them to the test. The London Spirits Competition for me is the true test of any spirit. It is judged by industry experts so this makes it that ever more so special”.
The London Spirits Competition looks to recognise, reward and help promote spirits brands that have been created to identify with and target a specific spirits drinker.
Jenny’s son Ben said: “We listen to what our consumers like both visually and in the taste department, and that is what helps us to succeed, which is fundamentally at the heart of what we do as a family business.”
