Heather Fitzgerald of Little C supper club at Commonground

To launch Oxford based Flow Records, new community supper club Little C is helping to host the first Sunday Sessions at Common Ground on Little Clarendon Street, this Sunday from 2pm ’til late (Sept 8) and we are all invited!

The Sunday Sessions will be held on the first Sunday of every month to give local musicians and DJs the chance to host an evening of music. Expect to hear music from across the board from reggae to folk, 80s house and beyond.

We want Little C supper club to have a real community focus, to be inter-generational and to show our cultural heritage through our food

To launch the new event and the advent of Flow Records shop at Common Ground (a purpose-driven social co-working café and community arts space), Little C is catering for the event providing some of their local, seasonal and bohemian veggie food to anyone attending. You can expect curry, and lots of sides for around £8 a head.

Little C is the brainchild of Heather Fitzgerald, a Commonground regular, who got together with some friends to host a one off community dinner there for charity last year, using Worthy Earth produce from Blenheim which is donated for free.

It was such a success that the three course quarterly dinners (£20 for three courses or pay as you go) and are now a firm favourite on the busy Commonground schedule, tickets selling out every time.

“Afterwards everyone wanted to know when the next one was. At the time, we hadn’t even considered doing another one, and it all went from there. The next one though was for 70 people so we had to up our game and needed a lot more industrial equipment,” Heather laughs.

Aimed at bringing together everyone in the local community, the more diverse the better, Heather says its somewhere to make new friends over some great food.

“We wanted the Little C supper club to have a real community focus, to be inter-generational and to show our cultural heritage through our food – by sitting, dining and chatting,” she says.

But it’s become really collaborative with artist friends designing the menus and people playing music, DJing and reading poetry, and everyone mingles, so our supper clubs have the warmth and chaos of a big friendly family dinner,” Heather explains.

“There are a few of us who run it, all avid foodies and we don’t pay ourselves but we love it. We are just a bunch of foodies who love cooking.”

This Sunday’s event will be a different to the usual quarterly supper club though and isn’t ticketed although the bar will be open and the food needs to be paid for.

‘Little c is for everyone who wants to come and be part of it’

“It’s for everyone who wants to come and be part of it,” Heather adds. “We are trying to create a real community experience and make the food as high quality as possible. Because we need to keep that community connection going and bring people together, and serving good food in a community space does that.”

So get down to Commonground on Sunday for some top food, music, drinks and community celebrations!
