Would we like to try out AURA 10? Hell yes! The reputation of the Japanese Head Spa in Long Hanborough preceding it, recommendations and glowing reviews reaching the OXINABOX HQ for months on end.
For those who haven’t come across a Japanese Head Spa, it’s a new therapy and experience where great reverence is given to the head as a whole. More than just a hair treatment, the effects of the hour and a half we spent there lasted for weeks afterwards.
‘It’s not just about healthy hair – it’s about giving people space to slow down, feel looked after, and reconnect with themselves’
Not that AURA10 is a lavish spa per se. Situated in a home studio and opened by Bex Williams in 2021, it brings something entirely new to the oversaturated pampering and beauty market.

And while enormously relaxing, a lot of analysis and personal care go into Bex’s treatments, which are aimed at both men and women and can last up to an hour and 45 minutes.
The abject professional, with numerous qualifications and accolades to her name (Rebecca has been shortlisted for three national hair and beauty awards) AURA10 is entirely tailored to the individual, with all sorts of high tech equipment to treat you with.
We chose The Zenith – 90 mins (£90) which begins with an in depth scalp analysis (both at the beginning and the end to mark the improvement), before you’re taken through to the treatment room where she lays an organic sheet mask on your face and begins a sumptuous aromatherapy Indian head massage.

Then comes the piece de resistance – the Halo Water Therapy (see main pic) – which defies belief, an incredible piece of equipment which circles your head with jets of water, which moves slowly up and down the scalp and is incredibly soothing, helping to lift away product build-up, oil and impurities, while stimulating blood flow and promoting a healthier environment for hair growth.
Bex follows it with an extensive hair cleanse to rid your hair of any residue, an organic scalp scrub, a hydrating hair masque, hot towels and hair steam, hair conditioner and a blast blow-dry.
Emerging looking and feeling a million times better, the effects were long lasting, so many people remarking on how well I looked, my hair soft, strong and shiny for weeks afterwards.
“Some of my first clients are still with me now, which I think says everything,” Bex says. “So while opening Oxfordshire’s first head spa was a massive gamble it was one of the best things I’ve ever done.

“Most clients say they’ve never felt anything like it before. I describe it as like a facial for your scalp, but people usually notice the difference straight away because it’s not just about the hair – we can tailor the treatment to exactly what your scalp and hair need and address any concerns.
“From a technical side, the treatment helps to deeply cleanse the scalp, unclog follicles, and improve circulation, which can support healthier hair growth over time. It can calm itchiness, reduce oiliness or flakiness, and give your hair a proper reset – especially if it’s been through a lot with product build-up, stress, or even just day-to-day life.
“But the one thing that really surprises people is the scalp analysis. I take before and after pictures under a magnifying camera, and honestly, the difference can be astounding. Clients can literally see the results – clear follicles, reduced build-up, healthier skin – and that makes the whole experience even more powerful. It’s not just about healthy hair – it’s about giving people space to slow down, feel looked after, and reconnect with themselves so the bit I love most is the emotional shift.”
So yes, a hugely novel and beneficial experience that we can’t recommend enough, which is presumably why Bex is booked up months in advance. We’d advise you to get in quick!
