Don’t miss Miles Jupp, Adam Kay, Lucy Porter, Arthur Smith and Ria Lina who descend on Oxford on Thursday July 17 for a night of sharp wit and big laughs – Stand Up! A Night of Laughs for Lawrence Nurses at Oxford Playhouse, all for an incredible cause.
“It’s shaping up to be a brilliant night of comedy, all in support of our vital nursing and bereavement care for local families,” Verity Fifer, Head of Fundraising at Lawrence Nurses explains.
Events like this comedy night are essential not just for raising much-needed funds but also for raising awareness of what we do – ensuring more families know we’re here when they need us most.

Miles Jupp began his career as a stand-up comedian before becoming such a recognisable face thanks to the likes of children’s TV series Balamory, The Thick of It, Rev and his appearance on numerous comedy panel shows, as well as hosting of The News Quiz on BBC Radio 4 for years.
Lucy Porter is a much-loved and familiar face from British TV, known for her appearances on hit shows like Live at the Apollo, Would I Lie to You?, QI, Mock The Week, and Richard Osman’s House of Games. A firm favourite with comedy audiences, Lucy has earned a reputation for her distinctive, feel-good comedy style that has seen her tour the UK and perform internationally in cities from Las Vegas to Cape Town, and as far afield as Hong Kong, Macau, Bangkok, and Paris.

Adam Kay, who lives in Oxfordshire, is of course the famous doctor turned comedian who rose to fame with his memoir This Is Going to Hurt about his time as a doctor, then adapted into a seven-part comedy-drama for BBC1, his associated UK tour selling out, as is the case at Edinburgh Fringe. So catch him here while you can.
Arthur Smith was one of many stand-up performers on the alternative comedy scene in the 1980s, and still performs today in much the same manner. His laid-back, individual style means he also picks up plenty of broadcasting work and continues to appear on the Radio 4’s Loose Ends ,while on television he became one of the Grumpy Old Men.

Ria Lina is an award-winning comedian, actress, writer and TV regular, described by ‘The Scotsman’ as ‘fearless , provocative and very funny’ and named one of The Evening Standard’s ‘Hottest Comedians You Should Be Watching Now’. Here’s your chance!
