‘Oxford is really punching above its weight in turns of its coffee community’

The brainchild of local brothers Ed and David Myatt who were determined that Oxford should have it’s own coffee festival, they decided to take matters into their own hands, and are confident The Oxford Coffee Festival will take off and become an annual event.

“Oxford is really punching above its weight in turns of its coffee community,” Ed explains. “There are so many coffee companies and roasters, coffee shops and baristas here who are really passionate about what they do, so the quality is already here and definitely worth shouting about.

We think there is a real appetite for a coffee festival here in Oxford’

“We think there is a real appetite for a coffee festival here in Oxford, it’s worked well in other cities, and the reaction so far has been amazing. We’ve sold 500 tickets already and all the contributor are really excited about taking part.”

Running from 9am-4pm, the much hyped latte art competition is running from 11am-1pm – where baristas from far and wide compete for the lauded title in the knock out competition taking place over four rounds in front of a panel of judges.

Joto Godai will be one of those competing. Hailing from Brazil, the 32 year-old won the São Paulo latte art competition in 2023, and has been pouring his love and creativity into every cup of coffee he serves and crafts at Tree Artisan Cafe on Little Clarendon Street.

Graziella Ascensao who runs Tree Artisan Cafe EXCLUSIVE: “I saved up for 13 years to open Oxford’s Tree Artisan Cafe.” How dreams do come true! is also hugely excited about taking part. A Total coffee aficionado, Graziella even has Tree Artisan’s own coffee specially roasted in Oxford using coffee beans from women led farms around the world, and has sponsored Brazilian Jota Godoi to join the Tree Artisan team here in Oxford.

“It’s all about the beans and it’s a crazy world,” she grins, “but having latte art in your coffee is a big pull. It’s especially popular with the younger generation of coffee drinkers who appreciate quality and are much more discerning about which coffee shops they frequent. So we maintain very high standards here and it is paying off because we have so many loyal customers.

“So taking part in the first ever Oxford Coffee Festival is really exciting because we pour so much passion into our coffee – we are just very grateful to be included.”
